Hi Lionel

Good question. I have a student version of MatLab and Maple is the cheaper
version of Mathematica produced in Waterloo. The student version sells at
about $80CDN vs "more" for Mathematica.

Both will handle Linear algebra without any difficulty. How they are at
numerical linear algebra, i.e., power usage ... I don't know.

The real question is what are "tools for our use"? Metastockers had exactly
the same question about "how do I use Excel with Metastock". Since the
answer was never made explicit ... adoption of Excel was very slow. I
suspect that the same scenario will unfold using "math" stuff.

Maybe Michael can say more about "tools for our use". I know that others on
the List have excellent experience with Linear algebra and either F77 or C++
etc. Free F77 compilers are available for download.

Best regards

Walter
