I have no commercial interest in AmiBroker and
would switch completely to them if their charting functions were better.
The developer has said that they will be. Until then I do not consider it
to be a good charting program, but at the top in terms of programming
(Metastock-like language that runs faster and ability to use script),
multiple stock system testing, etc. As a result, one can use virtually all
ideas and formulae from the Metastock world directly in AmiBroker. I got
interested in them several months ago because I want to be able to program a
variety of line studies that are not available in Metastock and Equis says they
have no plans in that area. Also, want to construct templates that are not
possible in Metastock (and again no interest on Equis' part) for Gann studies,
etc, but which AmiBroker says will be possible in the future, along the lines
now available in Ensign and TS. At this point, I do not consider
AmiBroker to be a full replacement for Metastock, at least for my
needs.

You receive a warm fuzzy feeling when you
think of the Equis people that you helped keep employed.
Keep your eye on the up and comers like
AmiBroker. It already beats Metastock in the programming and
system testing areas, and if they get their act together and do the same
for charting it will be a real alternative to future
upgrades.

Sorry to say, but my modem got zapped
by a lightning surge, I had to reinstall Windows, and I lost my
e-mail files. Thus I can't give you the direct quote of what Equis
said. However, I'll give you my interpretation plus my opinions.
You may want to go directly to Equis for
clarification/confirmation.
1. Equis said that the indicators
that can be downloaded from the May 2000 article were written at
some later time, and may not be a direct copy of what Ehlers
wrote.
2. The Cycle Length Indicator from
the May 2000 does not agree with the one that can be downloaded
for the March 2000 article, according to my
observations.
3. The Sinewave Generator from the
May 2000 download does not agree with the MESA Sinewave indicator
that is contained in the Metastock indicator list, again according
to my
observations.
4. My
impression is that someone at Equis who
didn't understand the article did the programming. They did not
talk to John Ehlers about this.
5. Equis said that their programmers
are working on other things now, are very busy, and won't be able
to look into this anytime soon.
6. I have found two other errors in
Metastock's programming lately.
7. My overall conclusion is that you
shouldn't trust any <FONT
color=#000000>of their indicators; program it yourself if
possible.

I recently downloaded from the
Equis web site the Sinewave Generator described in John
Ehlers' May, 2000 TASC article. When I applied it to the Sept
01 Canadian Dollar contract, as well as others, I got a
strange looking plot that missed several obvious cycles in the
price data. I sent the plot to John Ehlers and he responded
that there was an obvious error in the Sinewave Generator.
I have just notified Equis of
this error.
