Sure,
NYSE: if one person sells 100 shares of company ABC and another buys
the 100 shares, it shows up as 100 shares in the daily volume.
NASDAQ: According to CNCB about 30% of similar transactions on nasdaq
would show up a two seperate transactions of 100 shares each. I believe
it has to do with the fact that a Market Maker may execute one side of
the transaction of e.g. Island (which would report the sales as 100
shares) and the other half INCA/SOES/etc (which also would report the
sale as 100 shares). If the entire transcation takes place within one
ECN (SOES,ISLD,ARCA etc.) it would only show up as just one 100 share
transaction.
