I'll try.

You make money buy selling a stock for more than you bought it for. But you
don't have to buy it before you sell it; you can sell it first, and buy it
second. That's called going (selling) short. Buying first and selling second
is called going long.

You can go either long or short, and so talk about entering a position (long
or short) and closing it out.

For long: enter = buy, close = sell
For short: enter = sell short, close = buy

Subject: System Tester

Hi everyone

As a newcomer to stockpicking I am puzzled by the
terms used in the Metastock System Tester.
I would appreciate any help on the meaning of the
following terms:

Enter Long
Close Long
Enter Short
Close Short

I believe Enter Long is when you buy stock, and Close
Long is when you sell stock.
But Enter Short and Close Short has me puzzled.
Any explanation of the four terms would be most
welcome.
