>
> What we have seen friday isn't a
dead cat...imho.
> The dead cat bounce seems to be much more a stock
related event than a market
> related one.
> The Author of the
S&C article suggests that the dead cat bounce is to be
> explained
with fundamental events.
> The doubts about the former valuation of the
tech stocks is not a real
> "fundamental shift", as it is much more
dealing with market psychology and mass
> effect than new financials
standards. What happened on friday looks more on an
> event
affecting the broad market.
> By the way, I am not sure the volume was
that high in comparison to the
> previous, also agitated/volatile
days.
> I have also noted that most of the hammered stocks had already
declined quite
> severely the days/weeks before, which doesn't seem to
match the dead cat bounce
> hypothesis.
> I think it is important to
remember that the market often corrects its excesses
> (tough sometimes in
the other directions).
> Another question is to know whether we are at the
start (who knows?) of a
> medium term bear market, or whether just
some stocks would be affected (however
> did the dow/S&P also fall on
friday).
>
> I am very impatient to read your comments...
>

I think Adam's question pertains not so much as to what our opinions of the corn
market are, but more to the point of: How to handle your system when you
perceive in you're in a loser. The first assumption is really the trickiest:
are you really in a loser? Maybe the current action is still within the
parameters of acceptable behavior. The second is a guideline I find best to
follow whether you can really determine if you're system has triggered you into
a loser or not, and that's the following:
If the current action did not turn out to be what is typical for your system in
this particular set-up or pattern, then it's telling you it's wrong. The
default is always that you start out wrong until the market tells you you're
right. Otherwise, we all have a tendency to use a system to trigger us into a
position, then when it's performance surprises us and threatens our stop--but
hasn't yet hit it--we re-analyse our way into feeling comfortable. By doing so,
we're really in a new position. If your system would not have gotten you into
this new position, and in fact, exists outside of your system's catalogue of
triggers, then why are you in it?
Adam, you may or may not survive this position without getting stopped out. The
question is: what are you learning about your system that can be repeated when
this happens in the future? Will you turn to further analysis outside your
system's rules that may be easily rationalized, or do you exit with the smallest
loss possible and look for your next trigger within the system you're trying to
perfect?
Please keep these new posts coming. I hope to go to school on what you learn
to. I think you're onto to something good....
