Theoretically, momentum oscillators work best in trading ranges. Wilder's
RSI is one example and Stochastics are another. If you believe the
conventional wisdom, trend following indicators such as moving averages work
best in trending markets. There are some who would argue that trading a
ranging market isn't worth the trouble. The ratio of reward to risk is too
close to one. I guess it depends on your time frame and level of
proficiency.
