RE: Metastock 7.02 Upgrade

Ken,

I could not agree more with you. Unfortunately, I edited the
formulas using 6.52a to correct the problems in the conversion
process. Then I re-installed the upgrade (a total of 3 times)
to get the formulas, ..., experts to convert. Therefore,
I do not have the original "look and feel" for the 6.52
files. Also, I noticed that the system tests failed to
recognize my custom formulas, and choked during the conversion
process. I tricked the conversion software into creating the
system test and it worked once the conversion was complete.
It stored the "erroneous formulas" anyway.
Not sure why it could not find the custom formulas, but it
was able to see all the other tabs, and sub-tabs of formulas
less the ones I had created.

I will continue testing the 7.02 upgrade. Some of the charts
appear not to be correct but it could be a data problem or
something else (like my own mistake).

Sorry,

Ron Stockstill

Ron:

I flat out want to solve this problem. I lose sleep over stuff like this.
I am trying to take a personal interest in getting this issue fixed once and
for all. I can only rarely do this but it isn't fun having to put my tail
between my legs because there are problems in our "quality focused" update.
The next worst thing to being a frustrated customer is being a frustrated
Programming Manager <g>.

During an update or upgrade process, the original formula files are kept in
a backup directory. Look for a "backup" folder under where you installed
the 7.02 update. I am interested in the following files:
	MSxxFORM.DTA
	MSxxPRFT.DTA
	MSxxEXPL.DTA
	MSxxEXPT.DTA
Note that the "xx" in the above names is the version number WHICH YOU
UPGRADED FROM. So, if you upgraded from 6.52 the names would be:
MS65FORM.DTA, MS65PRFT.DTA etc.

In addition to these files, there should also be an "Experts" folder (again,
under the "backup" folder mentioned above. I need the entire contents of
this folder.

Thank you for your help.

Ken,

I have already converted the formulas and do not have the original
files to send you. The problem was I had 2 formulas that were not
syntactically
correct any more and that apparently caused several formulas to not
convert. I respect your statement of confidentiality, but I do not
have the files any more to send to you. I was able to correctly convert
all files except for one template. It was simpler to just re-create this
one template than to debug the conversion process. In any case, I would
highly recommend to other MS upgraders to follow the process I outlined to
verify that all your experts, formulas, system tests, etc., are correct
before doing the upgrade. It only takes an hour or so to pull down all
the custom indicators on a chart and to execute the trading systems to
verify they still function. It also will save you a lot of grief.

Now I have spotted an error in the Profitunity expert in 7.02 where it does
not
color the red and green zones. Since the formulas are password protected,
I will have to guess to get this corrected. I am very familiar with
Bill William's work so the problem is that the red and green colors are not
being plotted. The gray color indicates that the close is inside the
alligator (3 moving average lines). The green zone indicates the close is
above the alligator; the red zone indicates the close is below the
indicator.

See attached gif. You will note that between the vertical bars that the
close
was above the alligator. If you slide the bars over to other areas not
colored,
you will see the truth of coloring the ribbon is outlined above. If you
look
on the back of the "Getting Started Manual shipping with 7.02" you will see
the red and green zones being properly colored.

Thanks,

Ron Stockstill

Ron:

The best way for us to identify EXACTLY what is happening is for us to
EXACTLY duplicate the environment where your formula upgrade is failing. In
most cases the only way to do this is to have a customer ship us a copy of
their formula files so we can trace the formula update process to see where
the problem lies.

If you are willing to send me your files I will look to see if we can
identify your particular problem. I can promise confidentiality for the
contents of the file if you are concerned about this issue.

No hurry to order the upgrade. The first chart I opened failed as it
appears the formulas from 6.52a version must not have converted.

See attached gif. Formula 173 is missing. Now when Equis changed to an
alphabetic name and did not support reference by formula number, I changed
my formulas to include the number in the text to facilitate the changing of
nested formulas. Not sure why this formula is missing but I wanted you to
know that the new version may still have some issues that need to be
addressed.

Thanks,
