Metastock's method of converting Excel data is very interesting. This is the
long awaited Excel 97 and 2000 conversion process that works.
If I download 100 eod stock or fund data for today into Excel, for example,
it will convert easily into Metastock using ASCII format. However if I try
to convert the same file in Excel format into Metastock it will only convert
the FIRST ticker/stock/fund symbol in the worksheet. So I need 100
worksheets or workbooks to convert eod data.
Needless to say ... I'm glad that it finally works. Obviously if not suited
for eod data, coverting historical contact data will be a breeze. Thanks to
all of those who helped me learn about the "in and outs" of automating
stuff.

Here's George's explanation.
"Excel files allow data for one ticker symbol only. If you have data for
160 securities in the same file you will not be able to convert this as
an Excel file. The conversion will stop after one symbol as you have
already discovered. You will need to save this file as a Comma
Separated ASCII file. ASCII files allow data for multiple symbols so
you will be able to convert 160 securities from an ASCII file into 160
MetaStock files.
To save this file as an ASCII file, open this file in Excel.
Click File|Save As.
Change the Save As Type field to Comma Separated (CSV).
Click OK or Save and this will save your file as an ASCII file with a
.csv extension. You convert ASCII files into MetaStock files in The
DownLoader as follows:
Start The DownLoader.
Click Tools|Convert.
Set the Source File Type column to ASCII Text.
Set the Source Directory to the directory where your ASCII file is
located.
Type the name of the ASCII file you want to convert, into the Source
File Name column. Note: use Wildcard characters to convert multiple
ASCII file names. For example *.CSV would convert any ASCII file with a
CSV extension.
Set the Destination File Type to MetaStock.
Set the Destination Directory to the directory that contains all of your
MetaStock files.
Leave the Destination File Name column blank. The file Names are
supplied automatically by the conversion.
Click the Options button.
Click the Destination Tab.
Select Append data to end of file and click Replace matching dates.
Click Include open & open interest, to place and X in this box.
Click Create New files, to place an X in this box.
Click Traverse Destinations Subdirs, to place an X in this box, and
click OK.
When the Convert Securities menu appears click OK. This will start the
conversion process and store the files in a MetaStock format"
