Thanks, Chuck.

I happen to have Ron's check list....so here it is.

Claud

I have done further analysis and found 107 formulas did not convert
when
moving
from 6.52a to 7.02.

I took the following action:

1. I exported the 107 formulas using mswin6.52a organizer.
2. I imported the 107 formulas using mswin 7.02 organizer.

During this process 2 formulas were flagged as referencing formulas
that do
not exit
and I believe this is true. So I did the easy way out and
commented the
formulas
so that the process would complete.

Now what happened is real interesting. Many of the formulas
now have a (2)
appended to the end of the description. This suggests that
MS thinks the
formulas
may already exist but were not detected due to a software bug.
I am in the
process of removing the (2) appendages on the names and will
continue to
work towards getting MS 7.02 ready to go to work. The editor
does allow you
to remove the (2) and does not squawk about the formula already
existing.
Strange!

I have included a bitmap for your enjoyment.

Next, I will tackle getting the templates to work. The templates
are still
giving me errors
that functions are not being calculated correctly. Of course,
these
functions were not
even on the template suggesting an indexing into the formulas
problem. Wish
me luck!

Thanks,

Ron Stockstill

As you know, I have encountered several problems when using the
upgrade
from 6.52 to 7.02. It appears one should test all the formulas
to be sure
they
are still working before proceeding.

I now have got all the formulas converted.

I finally had to reinstall the upgrade for the third time to get
the
Metastock experts
to work that come with 7.02. My custom experts except for
one worked now as
well. So I deleted the one in 7.02 that was not working.
I switched back
to 6.52a
and exported the expert and re-imported using the 7.02 version.
This still
did not
resolve the binary header corruption problem. Finally,
I edited each little
piece of
the expert in 7.02 and this seemed to fix the data corruption
problem. So
now all the
experts seem to have been converted.

Next, I am turning my attention to the system tests. I noticed
several of
the
system tests were not converted. Same goes for explorations.

I would recommend that anyone upgrading do the following before
installation:

1. check all formulas to see they still work.
2. check all system tests to see they still work
3. check all explorations to see they still work

After upgrading:

1. Verify all formulas were converted (recall I had 107
formulas that
failed to convert).
2. Verify all system tests were converted
3. Verify all explorations were converted.
4. Verify all templates were converted. (I noticed that
some templates were
not copied as well).
5. Test before/after upgrade that you get the same values
for calculations.

This implies that you are installing the new version 7.02 in the
program
file subdirectories and the old version
was under the Equis subdirectory. This was my case and
I did have
additional backup
just in case.

Once this is completed, I will start testing the bugs I reported
to see if
fixes have been applied.

Thanks,

Lionel, Claude, Paula, others upgrading --

Ron Stockstill posted an excellent checklist for upgrading about two
weeks
ago. Unfortunately, I no longer have it, but perhaps he could post
it
again. I followed it pretty carefully and don't seem to have had the
problems some have had with upgrading of formulas, etc.

I would add these comments to his:

When you check your formulas, explorations, etc, do so by both running
them
and by opening them with their respective EDIT functions. I found that
some
of my 6.52 items would in fact run -- or maybe I should say, appear
to run
-- even though they were not properly constructed. But if you open
a
defective formula, etc in EDIT and then click OK, you'll get some sort
of
warning about its defect. That's your chance to correct or delete it.
If
you click CANCEL after the warning, the defect will be retained.

Install your 7.0x in a new directory, not over the old one. That way
you
can go back and use 6.52 until you're sure everything is OK. But be
aware
that opening a security in 7 makes it no longer usable in 6.5 -- so
you
might also want to make a duplicate set of 6.52 data files, which I
failed
to think of.

I didn't let 7.0x convert my stuff en masse during installation. I just
said no to its offer, and let the installation go to completion. Then
I
opened 6.52 and exported some formulas to an empty directory. Next,
I
closed 6.52, opened 7.02, and imported them. I've now done this several
times, a few items at a time, and so far, so good, but I still have
a lot
of stuff not yet done. This is undeniably a lot slower than mass import
during installation but on the other hand, a lot faster than retyping
one
by one. And it helps you to clean house since you'll want to import
your
best stuff first.

Good luck!!
