I have always received a reply from Reuters DataLink support within a day or so. Here was the response for the 3Com issue.
3Com (COMS) had a drastic drop in price on 7/28 because of the spin off of Palm Pilot shares to the shareholders. This is a spin-off not a split. Reuters does not adjust for spinoffs because the spinoffs do not affect the number of shares outstanding of the company, in this case COMS.

business of making handheld computers, and investors are relatively bullish about the company Friday. The Santa Clara, Calif., network equipment maker completed the spin-off of its Palm Inc. (PALM) unit, which makes Palm Pilot handheld devices, after the market closed Thursday. 3Com unloaded its 94% Palm stake by distributing to 3Com shareholders 1.484 Palm shares for each 3Com they own. Based on Thursday's closing prices, 3Com shareholders received $52.77 worth of
Palm shares for each 3Com share. 3Com shares closed at 64 9/16 Thursday, which means the market valued the post-Palm 3Com at $11.79 at Thursday's close. As a result of shedding Palm, 3Com shares are now trading at a fraction of their previous value. In recent trading, 3Com was at 13 5/8, down 78.9% or 50 15/16 from Thursday's close.
But the steep plunge is illusional
