I too upgraded (?) to IE 5.5 and wished I hadn't. I didn't
find any advantages and lots of drawbacks. The upgrade scrambled all the
icons on my desktop and the automatic "arrange" function
doesn't work properly. Also, it changed the default settings for my
printer when on-line and occasionally sends out a blank sheet of
paper after printing what was requested on-line. In addition, it has
slowed down the loading of several programs such as Outlook Express,
Eudora, and Word.

I e-mailed MicroSoft about this and asked if I could switch back to IE
5.01. Naturally, I didn't get a response.

If anyone has any ideas on how to overcome these problems or get back to
IE 5.01, I hope you'll post them.
I'm using IE 5.5 on '98 and NT 4.0, and I wish I hadn't upgraded.
On
NT it crashes pretty consistently where 5.01 did not (I have to use
Netscape to get into my Fidelity account, for example).

On '98 it not only crashes, but brings down the Windows Explorer;
which means it restarts it automatically, and *re-starts* all the
things that would normally be started on login.

YMMV, but like I said, if I had prescience of what was going to
happen
*I'd* have never upgraded.
