I don't know which version of the MSK-manuals or the DL-manuals you are
using & refering, but
page 13 in both the MSK v65 and v70 manuals refer to OLE links only
page 60 in both the DL v60 and v70 manuals refer to Download Prices from
an online Data Vendor only
If this is the case, eg you downloading from an online Data Vendor, then
the general Conversion and its options do not apply. The rules set for that
particular Data Vendor will then overrule any program defaults.
==============================================
The below and previous mail applied(s) to localy stored data only, eg thus
not to any cached Internet Downloads data !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(your post again did not reveal if you're getting fictious Internet or
factual True Ascii feed).
==============================================
A. At first - Manualy :
DL|New|Security
The first time a security is created from scratch, then you must check
the Opening prices option provided to you in the New Security window.
B. At first - Automaticaly :
DL|Convert|Option|Destination|Create New Security
The first time a security is created from scratch, then if a data feed will also
have the Open set as a valid Data field, eg if your received EOD data feed
also holds the Open prices for a Column.
C. Later on - Manualy :
DL|New|Security
When an existing security is to be altered, for example for adding the Open
column field, then you must check the Opening prices option provided to you
in the New Security window.
Only this latter, in C situation mentioned way, will give you the in previous mail
mentioned and by you described as "program manual's theoretical nonsense"
Opening prices. Though, is provided for convenience sakes and is an user option.
However, the first A and second B situations mentioned ways above, are valid
security set-ups for a proper conversion to happen, eg to have the TRUE Open
prices stored in the security's Data Files, IF THEY ARE ALSO PROVIDED.
That latter, it NOT BEING PROVIDED IN YOUR EOD FEED, is what (and looked
at from a distance) here seems to be your problem.
Situation A and B work out very fine for me, also for the past 4 years that I and
many others have been using the program.
So do check the EOD feed and the mentioned options..............................
Now should your EOD feed hold the Open prices, then you have probably never
had any Open prices enabled securities in the Downloader, eg they never were
enabled on the first date that they were created.
Now, after you have also checked the Opening prices in C to be set to ON, then
you will still have to re-Convert your older EOD data feed, for the MSK Data Files
to now also hold the Open prices (which on previous Conversions it has ommitted
to add, since that the user's option was unchecked and therefore set to OFF).
Any future newly Convert-ed data feed will then automaticaly Convert and store
the Open in the MSK Data Files.
