Recently there is.

there are USB network card's. More expensive than normal card's (wich
don't fit into the notebook) but less expensive than PCM-CIA cards.
I think worth the investment. They easily connect and install to the
computer
and, once installed, they work very good. Only thing you extra needs
is a cross linked network cable.

Once everything is installed you will have a very fast connection between
the 2 computers.

PS: you don't need an USB version in your normal computer. You can
use a normal card for that.
