Re: MicroSoft Office Pro 2000 Upgrade

A.J.,
I purchased MS Office Pro 97 after they stopped making it and during the free upgrade period
to Office Pro 2000 MS was offering. That's why the Pro 97 was so cheap. The 97 package I
purchased was a new and unopened retail box. I sent the box top to a MicroSoft address and
they sent me the Office Pro 2000 upgrade package. The upgrade was actually free. The only
thing I had to pay for was the shipping, which was $8 (yes, that's eight dollars [$8] hehe).
It was a damn good deal. So good in fact, I purchased another 97 package for $130 so I could
get another family member the free upgrade to Pro 2000.

Sorry, the free upgrade offer ended last year. This is the old URL to the MicroSoft Office
Pro 2000 upgrade page:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/order/techguar.htm

Because I purchased the second retail Office Pro 97 at the last minute (for the free Pro 2000
upgrade), it was very difficult obtain at EBAY at a reasonable price. I had to bid on many
packages before I found the right seller. Since the MS free upgrade period is over, the
value of all MS Office 97 packages is essentially nil. You can probably purchase MS Office
Pro 2K packages at a good price at EBAY.

I agree, the Office Pro 2000 packages are EXPENSIVE. I went to Best Buy and their full
retail version is nearly $600. The MS Office 2000 packages are so expensive, Best Buy stocks
each of them in heavy locked plastic boxes. Whether or not Excel is worth the price and time
to learn (VBA) is debatable. I'd rather have RadarScreen and a realtime eSignal datafeed.
Unfortunately, this costs $1300 and another $3024/year. Plus, you need a high speed
connection to the 'Net, such as cable modem or DSL, to fully utilize RS (not to mention a
fast computer with plenty of memory).

Daniel.
