Just having the Telnet port open and the program comes in?
Magnaticaly attracted perhaps? Invited (by carelessness) seems more like it.
Come off it, if you are Telnet-ting you will also have to type and give commands,
and if at that time you don't know what the heck you are doing than, the first thing
to do is to stay the hell away from it.
Prevention-lesson #1.
#2 will be to be updated on its usage(s).
When Telnet-ing you are by-passing any preventative security measurements
that were undertaken by the OS, the browser and yourselves, since they account
(=explicitly announced in manuals) for the Internet only and not for some privately
run (by the French) Telnet network. It is not a secure(d) network full stop.
#3 more stupid examples:
When PC has started type Format C: or Delete C:\*.*
Or if a program, that contains or sets off a virus or alikes, on floppy disk is
being accesed, and no undertakes to some preventive precautions have
been or are made, than PC is bound to get virus-ed, with or without the
use of Win 2000.
The operating system used in this, is of no influence here.
Any Operating System for that matter is one great big leak.
But it is you, the Operator, who is responsible for and the creator of any
leaks to also happen.
#4 So the best thing to do is to not "Share" your PC with others, eg never
set your any of your drive's properties settings to "Share".
#5 If you must "Share", than install proper preventative software (firewalls and alikes)
Without any further knowledge, do not start any hoaxes.

Ton Maas
