I don't think that there is a Y2K issue with Netscape. It seems to be the bug which begun with
vers.4.6 and is also resident on 4.7.The program has a problem with cache and memory
usage which the folks at Netscape prefer to ignore :)
You can do the following:
Close Netscape.
Delete the netscape.hst file and the entire Cache folder.
Open Netscape and click Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Cache.
Set the memory cache to 1024 and disk cache to 4096 max.
Click on Edit/Preferences/Navigator
Click the Clear History button and set the page history to 5 days.
Clean out your mail folders.
Turn on "compact folders" under Edit/Prefs/Mail & Newsgrops/Disk Space.
1. Close ALL programs currently running on your computer.
2. Click on Start
3. Click on Run
4. In the "Open" box, type: regedit (all one word, all lowercase
letters.)
5. The Registry Editor should now be open. Click on the + next to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
6. Click on the + next to Software
7. Right-click on the Netscape folder and select DELETE.
8. Click OK to confirm the key deletion.
9. Click the X to close the Registry Editor.
Reboot your computer. After rebooting, run Netscape again. The deleted key will be rebuilt.
If you can't get any pages in the future:Close Netscape.End Netscape task by Ctr-Alt-Del
and relaunch Netscape.
According to the reports version 5 is due in February. In case it proves to be false again
I am afraid all of us Netscape fans have to steer direction towards Billy the Gates :)
