The data is stored on eSignal's server and is served up when you ask for 
it.  For instance, if you want to see a historical chart of daily data for 
IBM, you set up your chart and specify the date range you're interested 
it.  Metastock then talks to the eSignal data server and gets the required 
data to display on your chart.  You don't have to store it locally on your 
PC.  If you have a cable modem or equivalent connection, you can get a few 
years worth of data in a couple of seconds.  -uf
