I never knew how lucky I was to be living near the local Computer Faire
sites. I'm going to check out the Professional Edition of VB6.0. My VB5.0
Professional cost all of $39.00 (US). For what MS gets for upgrades, it
pays me to get the full editions. You might check out registering with one
of your local universities as that will enable you to buy this software at
the student price. I'm going to upgrade to Office 2000 as soon as I get to
one of the Faires (about an hour and a half round trip). First I'll check
out the Internet.
I think that a lot of these sellers get student software or packaged
software (with computers) and peddle it at these shows. I did see that one
of the software manufacturers (CAD/CAM) raided the Pomona Show two weeks ago
and confiscated over $1mm worth of counterfeit software. Big local stink.
Regards
Guy

Subject: VB vs VBA
Hi Lars
The new Visual Basic 6.0 Learning Edition is out (it is actually the
"standard edition" at $145CDN ... more hard cash spent!!) and is very user
friendly. The upgrade to the professional version is another $400+CDN for
the upgrade ... then there is a developer version for the seriously demented
and driven.
VBA is of more interest to me because no matter how I change the way Excel
looks, I can launch/run my program / project from a floating toolbar or from
a 12, 24, or 60 button floating keypad.
VB programs / projects can only be run (I think) from VB itself but the VB
code can be cut and pasted into the Excel VBA VBEditor window.
There is a very good stock ticker program at http://www.devx.com/ that is
written in VB code. Insert code # GS199RS into the "Locator+" window. I've
downloaded lots of code from there. 1 = first quarter, 99 = year which
corresponds to magazine issue.
I don't think that the stock browser program downloads futures, which I
trade as spreads. Another trader on the list told me about another
downloader which looks good also. It has about 20 sites programmed and costs
about $35US. I still like your VBA program and think that it has potential.
Best regards
Walter
