I have also given you an incomplete answer to your previous question.
It is in the way the charts (mwc+mws) are saved, eg for a chart's (security) name.
Smart Charts have the same capacities as standard Charts, plus the capacity (the smart part)
to save Charts under its own <only to the MS-program known> security name.
When you Open a multi-chart Layout, each "chart" will also become a new single chart(object)
of this "new" opened Layout.
A "new" opened (3x chart(object)) existing-on-disk Layout would then look like this:
-Layout1-myfirstsecurity:1
-Layout1-mysecondsecurity:2
-Layout1-mythirdsecurity:3
Then from this program standard feature, and before you are capable to Save As a Layout's
chart(object) singly, eg now as a "Smart Chart", you will also have to create that Layout's
chart(object) as a new Chart first (cloning) and only then you can Save As this new Chart
as Smart Chart (eg Cloning a Chart). You are not capable to give it another name, other
than the program's standard security name for this Smart Chart.
Here is how:
{see also the build-in Help|Index and search for "Making Changes to a Layout"}
-First, make the desired chart(object) also the Active chart(object), then
-Click Window|New Window on the WorkMenuBar
-Click File|Save As
-At the bottom in the Save As dialog window, check the Save As Smart Chart option (to on)
-Click Save
Note that this saving will be automatically done to the "MSSmart" folder under the data-folder
you are (then on saving) currently working in.

Cloning Charts
The New Window command in the Window menu is used to create a copy (i.e., clone)
of the selected chart. For example, if you have a chart named "IBM" selected, and you
choose the New Window command, another chart will open containing the same data
and plots. The new chart will be unnamed with the title "Chart1-IBM."
This command is useful for quickly designing a layout or template that requires
multiple charts of the same security.

To clone a chart
1. Select the desired chart by clicking anywhere on it.
2. Choose "New Window" from the "Window" menu.

Save As Dialog
The Save As dialog is used to save a chart, layout, or template to a file name that
you provide. Choose Save As from the File menu. If you attempt to close a chart
or layout that you have made changes to, MetaStock will automatically ask you if
you want to save the chart.
For information on saving a chart as an Internet HTML file, see Saving Charts to
an HTML File.
Save in. Use the drop-list to select the folder where the file should be saved.
If you have checked the Save as Smart Chart box, the tree is disabled
and the chart is automatically saved to the MSSMART subfolder under
the data folder.
File Name. Type the name you want to assign to the file. The name of the selected
chart, layout, or template is displayed in the File Name box. You can save it
to its existing path and name or you can specify a new one. Charts are given
a *.mwc file extension, layouts *.mwl, and templates *.mwt. If you have
checked the Save as Smart Chart box, the File Name box is disabled since
Smart Charts are automatically assigned a name.
Save As Type. Choose the type of file you want to save. Choose Chart if you want to
save the selected chart to a file name. Choose Template if you want to save
a template based on the selected chart's contents. If you have checked the
Save as Smart Chart box, the File Name box automatically displays the
Smart Chart's name and is disabled.
To save charts as a layout, first use the New Layout command in the File menu
(see Creating a New Layout). To save a chart as an Internet HTML file,
see Saving Charts to an HTML File.
See Creating a New Chart for information on creating a new chart.
See Saving a Template for more information on saving templates.
Description. Enter a description of the file.
Save as Smart Chart. Check this box if you want the selected chart to be saved as the
security's smart chart. If you have checked the Save as Smart Chart box,
the tree is disabled and the chart is automatically saved to the MSSMART
subfolder under the data folder.
For more information on Smart Charts, see The Convenience of Smart Charts.

The Convenience of Smart Charts
To help with the management of your charts, MetaStock automatically creates for
every security a special type of chart called a Smart Chart. A Smart Chart is simply
a chart that is automatically saved under the security's name each time you are done
working with it. The next time you load a security's Smart Chart, it appears exactly
as it did when you last saw it. This frees you from having to worry about saving your
charts using the more involved (yet more flexible) Save As command
(see Save As Dialog).
Smart Charts appear in the Open dialog.
-Choose Smart Charts from the Files of Type drop-list to display the Smart Charts.
-MetaStock maintains one Smart Chart per security.
You may find that you only need to see one chart of a security. If this is the case, then
Smart Charts will be a great convenience for you. However, if you'd like the flexibility
of having multiple charts per security, then use the Save As command
(see Save As Dialog) to assign a name to each chart.
If you want to save a Smart Chart under a unique filename, choose Save As from
the File menu. Specify the file type as "Chart."

What is the difference between a "Smart Chart" and a Chart?
msg00030
Chart -A chart is a graphical representation of a security's price
along with any accompanying indicators and line studies.
In MetaStock for Windows you may have as many charts of
an individual security as you would like. The only requirement
is a unique name for each one (i.e., IBM, IBM1, IBM2, etc.).
Smart Chart -A Smart Chart is simply a chart that is automatically saved
under the security's name each time you are done working with it.
The next time you load a security's Smart Chart, it appears exactly as it did when
you last saw it. This frees you from having to worry about saving your charts using
the more involved (yet more flexible) Save As command.

How do I create a new Smart Chart, even if one already exists?
msg00011
Replacing the Smart Chart for a security is very easy. Here are the steps:
-Close the security whose chart you want to replace.
-Click on File, then New, and choose Chart.
-Select the security whose chart you want to replace and click OK.
This will create a new chart for that security.
-Click on File, then Save As
-In the lower right area of the Save As dialog box, there is a check-box
that says Save as Smart Chart.
-Click in the box so it is marked, and click OK.
-The program will prompt you that a Smart Chart already exists for that security
and ask if you want to replace it with the new one.
-Choose Yes.
You will now have a new Smart Chart for this particular security.
===========================================================
How to replace manipulated Charts with Smart Charts that will use the Default.mwt?
The easiest way to reset all the smart charts with the default template is to delete
all existing smart charts.
Then, the next time the securities are opened, the default template will be automatically
applied, eg to create new smart charts.
To remove the smart chart folder "MSSmart"
-Open up the Windows 95 Explorer and locate the mssmart folder in your data folders.
-The MSSmart folder contains all of the existing smart charts.
-Delete the MSSmart folder only.
GO SLOW WITH THE DELETE OPERATION OF MSSMART DIRECTORIES
Note
-Create a backup of the MSSmart folder to the C:\Temp folder first.
-Don't empty your recycle bin until your are sure you have not messed up.
===========================================================
How do I delete charts, layouts, and/or templates?
msg00010
Charts, layouts, and templates are deleted by using the Windows File Manager or
The Explorer in Windows 95.
Note: If you wish to delete a security or security data, you use The DownLoader
for Windows' Tools|Delete menu.
