(This e-mail originally contained some interesting Acrobat PDF documents
from the TASC CD that I had zipped and attached, but the MS mailbot wouldn't
let them through.)

Why I'm interested in Excel project: (ref TASC 1996 Product Reviews -
WaveWise spreadsheet)
I've used engineering and design software for years. Most of it leaves
me frustrated and looking for workarounds, well, except for AutoCad by
Autodesk
which is a very open architecture drafting software that stands alone very
well but also allows a tremendous amount of customization through interfaces
with Autolisp (Lisp), ActiveX, VB, and Excel. I've only written small
Autolisp apps for my own use in AutoCad but since I discovered Excel about a
year ago, it's always Excel to the rescue when looking for a simple
solution or workaround.
By the way, Quickbooks99 by Intuit is now interfaced with Word and Excel.
Users now are more in control of the appearance and calculation power of QB
documents,
reports, etc.

What I want Excel to do for me:

Walts ideas sound great to me:

are.

I trade commodities so my data needs to include Date, O, H, L, C, Vol, Open
Int. Also I want to collect data in real time mode for intra day analysis
and candlestick charting. Excel can do this although that may require
purchasing a vendor's package to get the Excel link working. (Ref: TASC

>b) developing a "data mining" workbook to look at patterns, seasonally etc.

Yes, statistical evaluators, and tactical patterns such as Walter Down's
articles.

>c) develop a Technical analysis workbook, such as Mr. Fritch's fine
example.

You bet. There is an amazing amount of info and examples available. A
search the TASC on CD for "Excel" turns up about 200 documents alone not to
mention all the stuff on the web.

>d) develop a trade systems workbook, that includes all of the trading
>systems used and the resulting trades listed

THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT => The ability to create a trading plan that
addresses Risk and Money management to the Nth degree that can be
backtested. That is- multiple contracts, scaling in or out, incremented
stops etc.

>e) develop a trade analysis workbook that examines trade systems, patterns

The other potential module is a data adjustment workbook that can create
continuous contracts from the individual contract using any method you want
such a nearest forward or back adjusted or unadjusted, rollover on volume or
a certain day. User can choose whether or not to sum the volume and OI of
all
active months. I am embarrased to say how much I've paid for some of the
pre-packaged continuous data junk I've gotten.

Walter and Dale- I'll try to help. Don't know how but I will.
