<DIV> </DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Data exchange as it was used previously, was only exchanging selections of
data-bits between programs and</DIV>
<DIV>are now - since OLEv1.0 - Objects and this in the widest sence.</DIV>
<DIV>Objects are virtual files(VFiles) having their own properties, operations
and relations etc.</DIV>
<DIV>Messing about with (like replacing, renaming, deleting) any of these
Objects(eg the underlaying subject: the VFile)</DIV>
<DIV>can then also have (bad) implimentations on the Objects' Link, eg the OLE
links from the VFile to your file.</DIV>
<DIV>They might still seem to be present (or not), but the results might be in
not returning the right values, have mutulated</DIV>
<DIV>links without any values given, or simply breached links, eg the above made
faults are then the #1 possibillity.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Seen in that respect, any problems arisen are then due to and from and on
the users end (from not enough</DIV>
<DIV>knowledge and experience in and how to maintain the OLE links or in how to
perform other required links systematic</DIV>
<DIV>maintenance while using programs or other operating commands).</DIV>
<DIV>Usualy it involves for the user to become more adequatly acquainted with
the copying, pasting and linking routines</DIV>
<DIV>in general, and OLE in particular.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>So for linking info, I would suggest to read the OLE support articles found
in the Microsoft's Knowledge Base and</DIV>
<DIV>the few webpages dedicated to OLE and its usage and handles on the Equis
website (however, they are a bit old</DIV>
<DIV>and dated, eg the Excel v8.0, the Office97Pro version, handles 65,500 OLE
linked record cells(=262 years) easely</DIV>
<DIV>in a single(1) column only !!).</DIV>

<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>OLE usage has got its own limitations, like other programs, but in general
is very stable.</DIV></DIV>
<DIV>Above is therefore only printed here as a help in solving possible misuse
of links generaly and OLE-links particulary.</DIV>
<DIV>Only when applying the faulty Patches early in Jan99, the OLE links here
got messed up. This was then due</DIV>
<DIV>to the Patch(es) not completing properly(no messages) and leaving user with
some patched, some halve patched</DIV>
<DIV>and some unpatched files eg enough for total disrubtioning of the MS system
files, and so this had nothing to do</DIV>
<DIV>with an unstable OLE, but more with the unstable faulty Patch(es).</DIV>
<DIV>Otherwise the OLE used here behaves and operates very normal, sometimes
slow (depending on a clean RAM</DIV>
<DIV>memory, but soon fixed by a re-boot) and is as described on the Equis site:
the cutting edge technology</DIV>
<DIV>(if you realy must leave the MS program to do calculations it cannot
perform).</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Tho, Equis has done so well in explaining some parts of the Copy + Paste
and Copy + Paste Special as Paste +</DIV>
<DIV>Copy + Paste Special as Link routines in their Manual and build-in Help,
their exact usage and also their exact</DIV>
<DIV>OLE usage and setup routine(s) could be better, more in detail be described

<DIV><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=5>Why can't I paste a link, from
MetaStock, into Quattro Pro, as CSV (comma separated value) format?</FONT>
<P></P>
<P><FONT size=1></FONT> </P>
<P>Quattro Pro (including the latest version 7.0) uses DDE (dynamic data
exchange) links to exchange data. It does not support OLE (object linking and
embedding) links. MetaStock for Windows uses OLE Links and not DDE links.
Therefore it is not possible to paste data from MetaStock into Quattro Pro or
Quattro Pro into MetaStock. </P>
<P>Note: You can work around this by using Microsoft Excel also. Since Excel
supports both types of links, you can create a link from MetaStock to Excel, by
pasting data from MetaStock into Excel, then create a link from Excel to Quattro
Pro, by pasting the data from Excel into Quattro Pro. This will work in reverse
also.</P>

I am writing a formula, lets call it "Code B" which will use the result (or
a value of a variable)
from lets call it "Code A" multiple times.....now, is it more / less
efficient to "call" the value
from "A" each time I need it, or would it be better to assign this value to
a variable in "B" and
use this "B variable" for all the calculations?
Best wishes,
Adam Hefner.
