Perl scripts are typically run from the command line so you can see
errors and warnings, type input, etc. I realize this may make some
Windows users with little command line experience uncomfortable, and may
add a Tcl/Tk interface some time in the future. The programs were
originally written in VB 5.0 and were on the order of 6 MB(!) in size.
Problems encountered included differences in dial-up networking between
NT and Win95 and much time was spent on maintenance. Now the programs are
just a few KB in size and my time can be spent on new, more powerful scripts.
>From the user's perspective, the task of setting the programs up may seem
daunting at first. However, the area of the scripts the user modifies are
clearly delineated and there are (hopefully) clear instructions on how to
make the modifications. I expect the user to read all of the instructions
in order to gain any benefit from the programs. Sufficient flexibility
has been incorporated to permit downloading data of a specific date
range, and of several tickers in one operation, ordering the output as
needed.
If anyone who is using these scripts has suggestions for clearer
documentation, please send them along.
My next planned release of free software will be MarketAlert. This script
checks quotes during the day and will send alerts to your pager or email
you if the stocks in your watch list exceed a percentage limit. Look for
it in the next couple of weeks.
TA Question: Does anyone care to comment on the CPQ chart? I bought on
the last dip ca. 25. This one has been pretty cyclical. Is it going to
turn at this point or continue on to ca. 35?
Cheers,
Jim
