<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2> I use Reuters for my EOD
data. This data source is the best that I have used. This data source corrects
data errors and adjusts for splits. Symbol changes are not automatically
corrected, unfortunately. I find that roughly twenty stocks change symbols per
week and I can make these corrections in about 40 minutes. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2> I open the downloader report
with wordpad. This allows me the option of printing only the information from
the downloader report that I need. Usually I just leave the file open in one
corner of my screen while I open the downloader in another corner of the screen.
The downloader report does not indicate which folder the stock, whose symbol has
changed, belongs to. I used to open the IRL to find the industry file name for
the stock but now just search subsequent entries in the downloader report to
find which folder the stock belongs to. Knowing this information I can easily
locate the stock in the downloader and change the symbol. It would be nice if
the folder which contains the stock whose symbol has changed was included in the
detail portion of the downloader report, this would eliminate the need to do a
search for the location of the folder using the subsequent entries in the
downloader report or the IRL search function.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2> Stocks which merge are
usually found when I get an error message while changing the symbol of one of
the merged stocks that the new symbol already exists. This indicates a merge. I
check the news for the affected stocks and delete the stock of the company which
merged with the stock whose symbol did not change.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2> While I have tried to
minimize the amount of work required to update symbols it obviously would be
welcome relief if the downloader could automatically handle this issue. A
lot of the twenty plus symbols which change are NASDAQ stocks which are in
trouble and have added a suffix to their symbol. Quite often this issue is
resolved in short order and the symbol reverts back to its previous
symbol.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2> <STRONG>One final observation
regarding MS 6.51</STRONG>. It appears that the new version of the downloader
has added to the effort required to maintain the data. I believe that previously
when I was in the main data folder I could select an industry folder by typing
its name. This does not work in the present version. You must manually scroll
through the list. It also would be nice if when using the scroll bar the scroll
bar would stay on your last selection rather than returning to the top of the
list on the next search. This request applies to opening charts as
well.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT color=#000000> Anyway, I also use IRL.
You say you download data for 8,000 stocks. How do you keep up with
the data maintenance problem? I'm talking about symbol changes, name
changes, mergers, etc. That's why I only have about 1,500 stocks in my
database, as it takes too much time otherwise. Just
wondering...</FONT></DIV>

You should have data for the 16th. Check with tech support at Quotes Plus
as to how you can recover this.
