I am looking in to whether to upgrade to 6.51 and really appreciated
the
information and experience that you supplied in your posting.

Since you are using Signal (I assume by the price that it is Online
and not
Stockedge) does it supply EOD data as well or are you
getting that from a
separate supplier?

I don't know
what you get in the way of EOD data with Signal OnLine. You can get
some historical stock data, but I'm not sure what else. I never
checked into it because I'm more than happy with my current supplier. (At
least for commodities.)

How well does the Signal interface
with your broker work? What I am getting
at is 2-fold.
One, the Signal software has a trade button that I assume
lauches or
opens the window for your broker software. Which does it
do?
Sure...make me be the guinea pig! You just had
to go and make me try something new. Ok... it launches your
browser. No, make that my browser. It takes you/me to the
DBC Trading Center, which seems to be simply a web page with about half a
dozen links to various brokerages. I don't see DATEK, but I'm sure
Signal would like to have their link. <g> I clicked
on Web Street Securities, and ended up at <A
href="http://www.webstreet.com/";>http://www.webstreet.com/.
Amazing. <g>

Second, does this interface with the broker work
smoothly and efficiently?
If you use DATEK w/o problems now,
should be smooth sailing. I access my accounts both thru my browser
and thru broker supplied software.

Let me throw you my proposed set-up for your
comments:

I would get EOD data from either Signal (if available) or my present
EOD
data supplier.

...with you so far...

I would use MS 6.51 for EOD expolorations and
system testing.
I would get RT data from Signal and use MS 6.51 for
RT explorations and
system testing. Can you do both EOD and RT
explorations at the same time?
Hmmm. Interesting
thought. Don't see why not. You're determined to expand my mind,
aren't you? I feel it only fair to warn you that I am quite adept at
resisting. Before I try what you ask, let me say something before I
lose my train of thought. (Sadly, a frequent occurrence.) When you
install MSPro, you'll end up with two shortcuts on your desktop.
(Actually, you may need to put them there yourself.) One will say
Metastock Real Time. The other will say Metastock End Of Day.
The only time you will run MS RT is when you are connected to your real time
data provider. The markets don't need to be open necessarily, but RT
seems to need to be online and ready to pounce on that first tick, even if
it ain't coming. If you try to open it w/o being hooked up, it will
fight you tooth and nail. (Geez...I'm beginning to sound like my father..now
that's a scary thought!) But, and here's the good news,
Metastock End Of Day is identical in every way to RT. No difference.
(Other than that silly collecting of real time data thingy.) I'm
no techno whiz, but I'm guessing that when you open MSrt, the only
difference between it and MSeod is that it also launches the Equis File
Server, the Equis Data Server, and in this case, Signal's Data
Manager. So, it's one program with two separate icons. That's my
theory this evening, anyway. Tomorrow I may have a different
one. One of the icons simply is a shortcut to Metastock in it's
non-real time mode, and the other icon simply launches Metastock and several
other required programs for rt data collection. (Equis, you probably
should correct me about now.) You can access both your EOD
charts and your RT charts in the EOD mode. Generally, you will use EOD
to do all of your after market analysis, including system tests and
explorations. When you're collecting rt data, i.e., running MSrt, you
can access all of your rt charts and your EOD charts, and you can run
explorations and system tests, etc. I don't want to tempt fate, so all
I run is an Expert.

Back to your question: Yes, you can do both EOD and RT
explorations at the same time. At least I just did it in the EOD mode.

I would use Datek On-line (good execution speed
and good commissions) for
order execution.
I agree with you
on both counts, but what's wrong with those people? Why don't they do
options???

Do you see any problems with the following setup
from your experience?

I think that this setup will give me the best overall return versus a
canned
system such as Real Tick III. Given that the canned
systems have SOES
execution of orders; I feel that the benefit of
SOES (ie reduced spread
loss) does not overcome the additonal
commissions ($20-$30 versus $10) and
software charges. The
canned systems also have no where near the complexity
of MSPro 6.51
for tech. analysis. I hope this gives you a good
understanding
of how I am thinking.

Any comments from others would also be appreciated.

I'm
not familiar with Real Tick III, and I lean mostly towards futures, not
stocks, so I can't be much help here.
