The most convenient way that I came upon for doing it is to use a shareware
program called WinRescue95, which copies registry and a dozen of other
files, and enables you to keep a set of backup copies. Each time you make a
copy it creates a diff dir with it. If the "accident" ios bad enough, you
can restore the registry from the command line.
