Hi Borys,
> Is it possible in MS 6.5 to do studies on studies? Specifically, I
am trying to plot a 3-period RSI of 1-period Rate of Change.
Absolutely, here's how:
1. Open a new chart with the underlying security you want to plot
these indicators on.
2. Select the appropriate ROC indicator (I assume "Price ROC", right?)
in the indicator dropdown.
3. Drag the ROC indicator and drop it onto the very top of your price
chart (so that it creates a new inner indicator window on top of your
price chart.
4. Enter "1" as the period of the ROC indicator in the properties
dialog that appears and press "OK". You should now have your 1-period
ROC plot.
5. Now select "Relative Strength Indicator" in the indicator dropdown.
6. Here's the tricky part: Drag the RSI indicator directly over your
ROC line and then drop it. If you watch closely, you'll see that the
ROC line turns pinkish purple when you've dragged the RSI indicator
directly over it - that is your clue that it is time to drop the RSI
indicator.
7. Enter "3" for the period on the RSI indicator in the properties
dialog that appears and press "OK". Then select "Merge scales on
left" in the resulting dialog box and press "OK" again.
8. You now have the two indicators in the same inner window. If you
want to put them in separate windows, move your mouse directly over
the red RSI line, then click and drag it to the very top of the
indicator window. If you drop it at the very top, a new inner window
should appear with only the RSI line inside of it.
Hope this helps,
Chip
