In addition to these, I'd like to suggest: 
9.  that one should be able to query any stock regardless what
subdirectory you're currently in. It's a royal pain having to change
subdirectories all the time to look at different stocks. 
10. Having the parameters one used to explore stocks with come up on the
chart screen as well. Automatically. Metastock fails on these.

There are some things you should have in a EOD data program, even if you
don't see a need now.

1. Full stock coverage - 9000+
2. Indices                   all the biggies
3. auto split changes
4. auto name changes
5. auto error correction
6. minimal funnymentals data
7. robust scan building capability
8. A good choice of charting/indicator support

If you don't have this in a candidate, look elsewhere.
