Rick, you might try the MS variable moving average, available on "moving
average properties" dialogue box, under "method/variable". It simulates the
Chande Vidya moving average which changes it's period automatically under
varying market conditions. (It's exactly the same as Vidya at the "business
end", but is slightly different at the far end....not significant though)

I don't know if this answers your questions because books have written about
each question you brought up, but there are indicators (like the above) that
attempt to bridge the gap between trending and non-trending markets.

As for your "Sky Blue" question, I think it's just a variation of "Rainbow
Bands"......or am I spending too much time watching this screen ?
