Another way:
-this will rely upon the up-date(conversion) software you use(from your data-provider)
a. configure this conversion software to output to 2x files:
a1. to metastock-format(this will automatically update your current MS-folders-contents)
a2. to a different format, like spreadsheet(excel) or
a3. to a asci-format(.txt,.prn,.asc).
b. in the 2nd file put a period (.) in front of all the ticker/symbols and 'save as' the file
using another name + same extension.
c. run the downloader, convert the 2nd file to metastock-format, but use a
newly created folder(C:\MSComp\ or C:\MSManual) as the folder to convert to.
d. press the convert-button and the DL will create 'your' new securities, all in one folder.
e. create your composites and manualy update daily to this folder as described above.
This will only take a few minutes or so to do( you could even create/do all this just before you
want to check on composites). It does create a 2nd "shadow" data-registration, but you
will find this to be the least of your worries, as long as the results are reliable and you can
make it profitable.
On this List a lot of guys have macro/VB/automatation experience, for you to make it
worthwile, within a limit of your daily time, without messing-up the original data.
Anytime you want to get rid of a security run the Downloader/Tools/Delete or even
if you have enough of it, in Win95 just delete the entire folder.
Anytime you want to start again, follow the steps layed out as above and get the 'missing
history data' copied from the original MS folder to your 'synthetic secs".
Your 2nd quest:
In Excel "open" the file with the DM/$ quote. This will bring you to the conversion-wizard.
Run through it, then you will get your quote in a cell in a clean spreadsheet.
Set-up the contents of your spreadsheet as layed out in the DL60-manual(p.70-73).
Save the spreadsheet to an Excel40 file and run it through the Downloader. If you have
more tickers than the DM/$, make extra small coloms(for the 'space') between the
nescesary coloms and 'save as' the file as a space separated text-file(xxx.prn). Make
sure you have deleted the empty rows/lines at the bottom(see my previous mailings
to the List).
