I think you should be a little more explicit when you say those who bought
stocks in 1966 had to wait 18 years to get even. Perhaps that 18 years was
invested in Japan and moved from that market at 39000 Nikkei to the US
markets. That was possible....I know that for a fact. When one says you must
get invested and stay invested, who says it must be in one particular market.
Someone stated that if you bought IBM at its high you had a 75% drawdown.
That is correct.....but what if you bought MSFT when it went public and
still held it today? Anyone can go back and pick out a winner or loser, be
it a stock or a market. That is hardly the point.
Markets are a difference of opinions....for every buyer someone is on the
other side, a seller. Your holding cash today makes you happy....it is your
opinion. Your gold recommendation a few months back was also your opinion.
Being invested and staying invested means just that. Defining how and where
that investment is made is the matter of personal opinion.
