Syntax question

I am trying to write a formula for:  "Yesterday's
close fell within the upper 40% of yesterday's
trading range"  as well as the opposite (for
entering short) i.e. "fell in the lower 40% of
yesterday's trading range.

The following doesn't seem to work.

Ref(C, -1) > .6  * Ref(H, -1) - Ref(L, -1)

Any suggestions?
