More about CNBC, Murphy, and the SOX

Are the following clues important to piecing together an interpretation of
why Murphy resigned from CNBC?

1  Murphy followed the SOX index (and evidently had called its 1996 summer
decline):  http://futuresmag.com/news/murphy.html

2  The OEX Master Blaster 10/16/97 email stated that Murphy had resigned.

3  The SOX topping pattern from July 97 through October defined by support
at about 370 was broken on guess what date...
