The Put-Call Ratio has been around a long time. It is really a measure of
market sentiment. It is fairly accurate but using it in and by itself is not
the best thing to do. It should be used in conjunction with other
indicators.
As a starting point, the following is a list of good indicators used by many
technical analysts. Keep in mind that these measure market sentiment and are
not well adapted to short term trading.
Stocks over 200 Day Moving Average
5 Week Advance/Decline Index
Investment Services Bearish
Bulls - Stock Index Futures
Large Block Uptick Ratio
CBOE Put/Call Ratio (25 day)
A combination reading from these indicators can go a long way in helping one
assess major trends in the market. But none of them are really valid by
themselves.
