Subject: Re: End-of-Day Internet data
I have version 6.0 for Win95. Using your browser, you go to their FTP site
and you download the files you need. With their basic service you are
allowed to download 10 files a day, 7 days a week, but will download less
than that. You will probably have to update your database anyway so you will
fully use your account until it's up to date.
With Quotes Plus, you don't have to deal with stock splits or name changes
but you have to replace the ENTIRE MS database EVERYDAY! This means you
would be transferring over 100 megs every single day. Also, I don't believe

Not True.
The nightly download is less than 200K of data.
It takes about 5 minutes to update the HD database of all 10,700 Issues
Data then can be exported into MS directories. Existing MS data
can automatically be updated including splits without re-creating anything.
QP will automatically update a list of MS data dirs as part of the Download.
It is the least painful way I have found to get data in to MS. BTW: can
you download a demo and try it for yourself for free.
Yes, you cannot put more than 255 symbols in a directory. I find it
annoying. What is more annoying is try putting 1000 symbols in a directory
like the MS CD data and Metastock absolutely crawls opening charts, etc.
QP uses the new MS format of over 256 files per directory. Because Equis
refuses to share its new directory format, the only way you can get over 256
files in a directory is to use the DownLoader to import data.

YEP! Thank you EQUIS! :(

<< Dan, this a a very interesting concept: to use the Basic Service from
Quotes.com with Downloader, if latter can be configured to import into
MetaStock. I currently use Downloader version 3.5 but also have version
6.0 for Windows95. Which version do you use? Anything I should be aware
of in configuring Downloader? Thanks, CMA.
