For instance, the S&P Spiders on the Amer. STk. Exchange represent 1/10th the
value of the cash S&P. You can buy and sell them like stock, and there is no
uptick rule, if one wants to short them. So, if you have a portfolio of,
say, $100,000 simply sell 1000 Spiders, and you''ve basically got a hedge for
your personal portfolio, if it in any way correlates in behavior to the S&P
500. If you use a discount broker it's very cheap stuff. And, it doesn't
have the massive volatilty, intraday, of the S&P 500 futures.
