RE: Strange goings on - Metastock Explorer

I'd like to thank everyone for their comments concerning my MS 6.0
problems.

DOS version: The reason I moved away from the DOS version was because of
it's inability to use more than 3Mb of expanded memory. This severely
limited the amount of data you could display, which pretty much
eliminated the use of P&F charts, altogether. Although I don't use P&F
"trade signals," I do like to use the charting technique (in conjunction
with bars) to help filter out the noise. For me, going back to the DOS
version is just not an option.

My system: I have checked and there doesn't seem to be any device
conflicts at all -- to be expected, since this is a new Dell that I just
received on Friday, as well. Anyway, it's a Dell P-II/266, 128Mb RAM,
6.4Gb HD, 12x-24x CD, Matrox Millenium video w/4Mb, 4Gb Tape. I didn't
buy a monitor, so I'm still using my NEC 4FGe. I decided to go ahead an
max out the memory while prices are still low and I have a feeling that
MS will use all of it during it's explorations of thousands of stocks.

Win/NT: I purposely ordered this system with Win/95 because of an
article that I read in one of the PC mags about Win/NT not having some
of the plug-'n-play apects of Win/95, among other things. The jist of
the article was that the typical user would be better off staying with
Win/95... so I did! <grin>

P&F "O"s: Although this plagued me for most of the first day, it no
longer seems to be a problem. I have changed my Win/95 and MS 6.0 screen
colors/settings around a bit, so I must have inadvertently fixed it.

Crashes: The two crashes that I had resulted in a Win/95 error message
that said that MS 6.0 had performed an illegal operation (or function).
The first time it occurred, I had deleted the base chart and when I
attempted to redisplay the base chart, it crashed. The second time it
occurred, I had just finished an exploration and when I double-clicked
on one of the securities in the report, it crashed. So far, it hasn't
done it again.

When I reenter MS 6.0 after it crashes, it asks me if I left improperly
(something like that) and I click "Yes" and it goes ahead and loads, BUT
when I place the pointer on one of the Tool Bar icons, I no longer get
the little "reminder" next to the pointer that tells me what that icon
does. That is how I knew that the program was not operating properly. If
I exit MS and reboot, then everything works as expected.

Thanks again for everyone's comments.
