All,
In picking COMS for my weekly pick, I also came across these two to watch
- Ascend Communications (ASND) and Cisco Systems (CSCO). Both are interesting
fallen angels in that they are 50 and 30 per cent, respectively below their
52 week highs, but are still showing high revenue and earnings growth. More
interesting is that they are being forced into a corner between the rising
bottom of longer term up trends and the falling tops of shorter term down
trends.
ASND at 39 1/8 is in a Short Term Down Trend Channel (STDTC) within a
Long Term Up Trend Channel (LTUTC). Its dropped from a high of just over 80
to a low of almost 36 last Tuesday when it bounced off the bottom of the
LTUTC. Its PE is 41; ROE 30%, no debt; 94% institutional ownership and 19%
insider ownership; and revenues and earnings both grew better than 250% last
year. The top of the LTUTC is at 91 and the bottom at 37 1/8. The top of the
STDTC is at 41 7/8 and the bottom at 21 1/4. The RSquared is at 0.33 and
falling, the S/C is negative. but starting to rise, and the MFI is well under
50, but also starting to rise. I'm thinking that the LTUTC will hold and the
STDTC will be broken. The best entry will be when/if the STDTC is broken.
I'll be watching for the opportunity.
CSCO at 46 3/8 is in a STDTC within an Intermediate Term Up Trend Channel
(ITUTC). It's dropped from a high of a little under 75 in mid January to a
double bottom of just over 45 in late March and again last Tuesday. Its PE is
34; ROE 39%; no debt; 77% institutional ownership and 2% insider ownership,
and revenue and earnings both grew better than 80% the last year. The top of
the ITUTC is at 81 1/2 and the bottom is at 44 3/8. The top of the STDTC is
at 52 and the bottom at 36 1/4. The RSquared is still under 0.15, but rising,
S/C and CCI are both negative, but also rising. Again, I think that the ITUTC
will probably hold and the STDTC will be broken. The best entry will be
when/if the STDTC is broken. Again, I'll be watching.
