reinstalled like advised. Worked perfectly,

64-bits
Hello,
If you needed anything below to install beta, it means that
you did NOT run FULL setup from http://www.amibroker.com/bin/AmiBroker520.exe Running
full setup (NOT upgrade) is required. If you ran full setup, you would not get
those problems.

opened the command prompt as the administrator.
Then on the command line: net user administrator

I did a reboot, logged on as the administrator and now I
could install the beta.

Actually you are not a "real administrator"

hmmm but I am in Administrator Mode I believe. The
ab5296beta file is downloaded in the "Downloads" area of the
Administration. And I am logged in as the Adminstrator. I can
not find much on the net about this problem.
Thanks, Ed

This is the BIG issue introduced with Vista.
Either turn
off User Account Control, or run the program as
Administrator.
I think this feature was in XP Pro, but turned
off by default, in Vista, it was turned on by default, hence the
shock to new users.
Go to [Control Panel]>[User Account]
and turn off User Account Control. Albeit, some rogue program could
execute an exe file without your authorization. BUT if you turn that
off, you are now more in an XP world.
Otherwise, and maybe
the safer mode, is to execute the program in Administrator mode,
which in effect YOU are, as this is a PC at home, and not in a
public office environment.
Do look at Total Commander as an
Explorer replacement, and check the boxes under properties to [X]
Run as Admin....
Your choice.
All 32 bit applications
do go by default to the <x86> program folder on a 64 bit
system.
