On Tools>Preferences Charting tab the top left two check boxes under general control the grid lines for price, days and months. Do you have them checked?
I had day checked and lines show up between days. I turned days off and checked month and I had a line between months.
If these are set then but you don't have the lines go to the colors tab and make sure the grid color is not the same as your back ground color.
