I'm evaluating AmiBroker as an all in one front end market analytics app. Eventually I'll need the backtesting features, but for now I am attracted to the speed and flexibily of the scanning features. Frankly I started out using Esignal for basic analytics and data but I'm running into some functional gaps. I'm hoping AB can fill them and perhaps allow me to drop Esignal in favor of AB, a high quality historical data provider, and a real time feed from Interactive Brokers. Anyway, I have a few use case questions and would appreciate any feedback on AB's ability to handle each case.
1. Market Scanner - This is my highest priority issue. I would like to build a handful of workspaces that scan and sort major futures and indices using a few technical indicators, with the ability to review the chart for each item by selecting it in the scan list. I don't really want to use a single scan window and manually run each scan. I need to click from tab to tab and have the results ready to review, including the technical indicator columns. Think Tradestation's Radar Scanner or MultiCharts Real Time Market Scanner. I don't really need real time updates for each list, just a few automatic updates each day as I'm focused on daily and weekly trends. Unfortunately Esignal does not provide this functionality in the core application and their AdvancedGET service costs several thousand dollars plus a hefty annual fee.
2. Load Historical Data to Excel - I need to load daily historical prices for a portfolio of stocks and futures into Excel for use in my custom risk management spreadsheet. Does AB allow DDE requests from excel for historical data on a ticker by ticker basis? Once again, Esignal is not getting this done as the Qlink excel integration product is erratic, and they know it. If AB can handle this one then I can standardize on AB for historical data management.
3. Fundamental Data Charting - This is less urgent but eventually I need to create a large set of charts for economic and company specific fundamental data and I would prefer to use the same front end tool that I use for charting price data, in part because I want the ability to build charts and signals that incorporate fundamentals and price data. Does AB allow DDE requests to Excel for historical data series other than stock data? I think the answer is yes but would appreciate all feedback. Also, has anyone tried this? Of note, I don't think Esignal can do this, but if anyone thinks it can I'm all ears.
If necessary I'm open to suggestions that require some custom coding inside or outside of AB
