I seem to recall that changing the Name property of the ActiveDocument property of the Application object will load the symbol. Haven't tried it recently though, so I can't swear to it ;)
e.g. from JScript
ab = new ActiveXObject("Broker.Application");
ab.ActiveDocument.Name = "ORCL";
