3 Years sounds about right. I've replaced several UPS at around that time frame.

Hard to believe that we are in the 21st century, and there is still no dependable, long-lasting energy storage solution at the consumer level. 

Back in the 1980s when I was going to college, I thought for sure that by 2001, we would have batteries the size of cigarette packs that could run an entire household worth of appliances for at least a month. 

Instead battery technology has barely improved in the last quarter century, if at all!
