I use anything and everything.

Depends on the trading idea that I am trying to test or implement.

Limitations are imposed by:

- availability of ticker lists
- availabilty of weighting lists (if they are a sector index tracked as an ETF)
- availability of tracking indexes and vol traded in them e.g. S&P's are the main traded sector index in the US while the Dow indexes are more relevant in Europe (plus some others)

Also some providers have their own indexes based on correlationa and some traders make their own sector lists based on other criteria.
