I think the groups been down a lot due to this transfer process... but the search sever is down 8 times out of 10 and has been like that for as long as I can remember. It's effectively useless.
I understand there is a clear resistance to change here. People have got used to a certain format, and they don't want anyone to shake the snow globe. But for most users, storing 45,000 e-mails from this group is simply unacceptable and inefficient. It's like using a brute force optimization when there are far smarter ways of solving the problem.
We are now offered far more powerful tools for storing and managing a collective knowledge base. And everyone can still get the email if they so choose... and most users who don't want to store 45,000 emails will see the benefit too.
