A bit too complex to post an example, but in short I use the Optimizing engine in non intended ways. I optimize over tens of thousands of "variables" that were themselves generated by an earlier optimization algorithm. And during the optimization, I write to an external text file to generate a database of yet more variables. IO tends to give wonky results with all that.

But I do use IO anytime I do 'normal' optimizations, and it's a solid speed-up help.
