Posting this in case anyone has experienced similar issues. Plus it
feels good to contribute a little something to the group, as I mostly
ask questions.
I am using AmiBroker 5.20 with a clean Win XP install. The only other
programs on the machine are MS Office and McAfee Security Center.
During a several-hour optimization last week, AmiBroker popped up a
memory error of some sort. I tried to click on the "bug report"
button, but everything was frozen. After force quitting and resetting
the PC, I returned to AB, but it seems it got irreparably damaged. Any
time I tried to send a formula to the AA window, AB would take 2-3
minutes to complete the task. Previously this only took 1- 4 seconds.
Windows task manager indicated that AB memory usage was ballooning
past 1.5 GB, whereas it used to max out at 115 MB.
I uninstalled AB using control panel, and deleted all AB folders and
files. I even emptied the recycle bin. I did a fresh install of AB and
thought that would solve the problem. But the problem persisted. Other
programs like MS Excel worked as fast as they normally do. Only AB had
this weird slowdown effect.
I installed Glary Utilities and repaired and defragged the Windows
registry. I optimized memory, got rid of any temp files. Ran chkdsk,
and disk defrag. I uninstalled AB again and repeated the Utilities
repairs/optimization once again, just in case. Finally did a second
fresh install of AB - yet the problem persisted!
The only thing that ultimately worked was doing a *Windows System
Restore* to 30 days ago. AB finally worked normally like it used to.
I guess the veterans on this board might have done the restore instead
of all the crap I tried. But, I am almost ashamed to say, I never even
knew Windows had a system restore function. Or maybe I knew at one
time, but forgot it was even there. In any case, that's the way to
solve any mysterious AB slowdowns.
