I think that's a typo ... you meant ILLEGAL?
I appreciate the additional comments because I am new to internet
ethics and it is definitely a challenging issue .... mainly because I
can steal stuff more easily than ever and it is right in my face.
FTR
I don't have a problem with 'business secrets' or 'trade secrets'
e.g. Tomasz is entitled to do everything he can to protect what is
clearly his property (built on Windows, C++ and general trading
knowledge though).
I have one or two trading secrets that I protect by:
- not telling anyone (even my wife)
- keeping it in my head
- when I do have to write it down I don't store the code on my hard
drive (sorry hackers... no use breaking into my computer cos there is
nothing of any value there)
IMO people who want to make a living selling trading info should go
behind a security wall and do their utmost to keep it behind the wall
BUT they shouldn't expect to limit others from thinking the same or
similar thoughts, and sharing it if they want to.
Using Howard as the example (not picking on him ... it is one we can
all relate to):
- he is entitled to get paid for his work
- IMO he should have published electronically
- clients could read the ebook behind the wall (I am sure technology
exists to stop me copying/pasting or downloading from a web ebook)
- no need to worry about the educational code because it would also
be behind the wall
Anyway, in the long run he could have held on to a greater share of
what I paid (instead of US post getting 20%) and saved himself the
stress of reprinting (he could upgrade and edit an ebook version
anytime he wanted to).
