Please do not turn that into "which forum software is better" debate.

There are things I love in phpBB and that I hate, and I did try
some others and have some opinions, 
but it is NOT the point at the moment. 

For now the question is 
mailing list (e-mail) 
VS 
forum  (on-line only web browser access).
