Absolutely agree.  

More users would benefit from normal multi core support with a lot 
less work.  

Also there is nothing to prevent anyone from using the existing API 
to offload the calculation if we really want to go to the trouble.  

I have to admit that my dabbling with the CUDA API has been very 
frustrating.  I made the mistake of loading Vista 64 on this system 
and the compatibility problems with the CUDA development environment 
is a PITA.
