[amibroker] DateAxis interaction with gfx

can anyone explain how the display of the Date axis is determined by, and interacts with, these settings:

Param window date axis

SetChartOptions(0,chartShowDates )

GFX backgroundmode(), setoverlaymode()

There is interaction, or priority, and I can't seem to get consistent display. It often disappears on me and I can't get it to show.
